What your life could be like
A before/after scenario
Before TrackDown
Alice is your average computer engineering student and, as it is well known, computer engineers have their heads in the clouds more often than not. This morning she is a little clumsier than usual and, as soon as the lecture is over, she accidentally pushes her purse off the chair. Since everybody is in a rush to leave the classroom, she tries to pick everything up as fast as she can. That is probably the reason why she didn’t notice her wallet, waiting to be picked up in some dark corner. As Alice leaves the room, Bob, an electronic engineering student, walks in. It doesn’t take long before Bob’s keen eyes notice that fat wallet waiting for him. Sure enough, Bob will leave the wallet to the closest police station, but only after having taken his finder’s fee (which roughly amounts to 100% of the money found). But now, back to Alice: she doesn’t need her wallet while attending other lectures, and she spends the entire day without even knowing that she has lost it. But, as she walks down the stairs of the underground station, she realizes that her wallet is missing. At that point there isn’t much she can do: she knows that she had last used her wallet on her way to the university, but that was eight hours ago and since then she has been to four different classrooms and walked around half the campus. She could certainly try to look for her wallet around the university, but she also knows that the chances of finding it are slim, at best. Instead she decides to call the closest police station and, luckily, she is told that her wallet was turned in not an hour before: when she goes there to claim it, though, she finds out that somebody took the time to strip it clean of all the money. All in all, Alice realizes that she was lucky to have retrieved her wallet, which contained her IDs and her credit cards, but she can’t help but wonder: could things have gone differently?

But now, back to Alice: as she walks out of the classroom, her phone starts chiming and a message pops up: “You may be leaving your wallet behind!” but she is too busy to notice that. She decides to take a break with her friends but it doesn’t take long before Alice notices that her wallet isn’t indeed in her purse. To make things quicker, she just opens TrackDown and has a look to the last position of her wallet: Room 12… Perfect! A couple of minutes later, in room 12, she notices a sneaky guy with her wonderful wallet of the same colour, same shape, same size of hers! As she heads towards him, he starts stammering something about how he was going to return the wallet as soon as he could. Luckily, Alice retrieved her wallet a few minutes after losing it… What sort of nightmare would have she gone through otherwise?
