What is MyGuide
A project aimed at helping the visually impaired navigate inside Politecnico di Torino Campus and nearby.
Our goal is to remove barriers, create solutions and expand possibilities to help users achieve their full potential as Polito students. The highly reliable GPS system does not provide indoor positioning in Politecnico di Torino. Thus what is needed is a reliable indoor positioning and navigation system for the visually impaired to be able to manoeuvre around the Politecnico campus. MyGuide is an easy-to-use system that determines the current location of the user and receives the destination (through voice commands from the users) directing them accordingly.
About the system
It guides the user along the pathways of Politecnico campus by giving voice commands. It also vibrates the cane when an obstacle is nearby.
The feedback to the user is in the form of audio and/or vibrating walking cane. MyGuide is able to detect obstacles with reasonable accuracy and route the user through less crowded hallways in Politecnico. The MyGuide walking cane vibrates to guide users through hallways by vibrating to indicate the a possible obstacle. And the Mobile Application outputs voice commands to direct the user to take a proper corridor.
About Team
We are a professional students team, from 4 different countries, 4 different degrees and 2 continents.
In this moment, we dedicate our life to the development of a product meant to be to helpful to all visually impaired people. Project MyGuide is a huge challenge for us, for our career and for our lives. But the most important, is the challenge to make helpful every moment of those who will use MyGuide to navigate. If we succeed with this project, we intend to achieve and attract fundings to realize MyGuide in the true sense. In conclusion, we want to remind you that everyone deserves a chance to a normal life!
